To commemorate the 100th anniversary of Barnsley War Memorial, Fusion and Barnsley Schools Alliance are inviting all schools in Barnsley to take part in a special community art project. Secondary schools are asked to create and submit up to 100 pencil portraits (minimum of 50) of fallen heroes from Barnsley. These portraits will be used to design a digital collage, which will be part of a major visual projection onto Barnsley Town Hall on Saturday October 11th to mark the 100th birthday of the War Memorial. Project Overview
- Participants: All secondary schools in Barnsley & establishments with KEY STAGE 3/4 CHILDREN.
- Objective: Create up to 100 pencil portraits of local fallen heroes (minimum of 50)
- Submission Format: Jpeg images
- Project Timeline:
- Start Date: June 23rd 2025
- Submission Deadline: September 23rd 2025
- Final Display: October 11th 2025 at Barnsley Town Hall
Participation Guidelines
1. Portraits
- Each school should produce up to 100 pencil portraits (minimum of 50)
- Portraits must be A5 size, drawn in pencil, using the provided templates
- Each portrait should be anonymous (no mention of the soldier’s name)
2. Submission
- Portraits can be scanned and compiled into a PowerPoint presentation or submitted as hard copies
- Each slide should feature one portrait along with the corresponding details.
- Email the completed PowerPoint to [email protected] by September 23rd 2025
3. Final Collage
- All submitted portraits will be used to create a digital collage
- The final artwork will be exhibited at Barnsley Town Hall
